Well I guess it's about time to update this Bio.

About four years ago I had recorded a solo CD in my home studio (titled Crude but Effective) it was a collection of some of my favorite tunes from the sixties and seventies, I decided to perform the songs live for my friends but I needed help. I was introduced to Rick and played the CD for him I don't think he was too impressed but he agreed to perform with me anyway, we then recruited Joe (our sound erngineer), so with a drum machine we did the deed.

Next thing I know we have the fever! So I recruited Doug who hadn't played drums for a number of years (they were in his closet!) after a few weeks of constant verbal abuse he finally agreed to bring his drums for a jam (he was in!)

Rick in turn recruited our original bassist Zach Villacano who was a talented guy and played bass and guitar. So we had a band! Zach however lost his job and had to leave the bay area, We searched for a new bassist and went through 4 of them in 2 months!

I was talking with our UPS driver where I worked at the time and he told me he played Bass so I invited him over to jam and WOW! He could play bass! Thus Rob became the Shrunken Heads bassist.

I know that the Bio is supposed to be about me but I thought a short history of how the Band came together would be fun.

Now about me, I have been playing longer than I am willing to admit! I started at age 14 in various bands and played in Europe with a couple of bands as well. I was born and raised in San Francisco and was knocked out by all the great bands of that era. Some of the musicians I was inspired by were Jackie Wilson, Wilson Picket, Ben E. King, Martha and the Vandella's , Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck George Harrison, Robin Trower, Leslie West and Wes Montgomery, just to name a few.

Some of my favorite bands: Hendrix experience, Cream, Mountain, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, The Who, Stones, Floyd and newer bands like Savatage, Joe Satriani, Dream Theatre and Alice in Chains.

As far as my Gear goes I use a Gibson Les Paul Studio, A guild JF30 acoustic, Marshall AVT150 amp and 1960A Cab with 4 12" green back celestions. Boss distortion pedal, Boss overdrive, Dunlop wah-wah and tremlo stomp boxes.

I wish to thank all the folks who have helped us out over the years by giving us encouragement and attend all the shows! We love you guys (you know who you are) We could not do this without your Support!  -  George

I play lead guitar for the Shrunken Heads. My main guitars are a Stratocaster and a headless G3T Hohner with custom Seymour Duncan pickups. My major influences are: Chet Atkins, the Ventures, the Beatles, Jeff Beck, Frankenstein, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Ringo, Bach, Eric Clapton, and the glowing green sphere. I work late into the night to develop my technique, tone, and format of my playing. My main focus is on the material we play, arrangement, style, delivery, tight playing, and phrasing. We play covers of some of the greatest rock tunes as well as original music, all performed with power and conviction. It's getting dark, the night approaches and time for me to get back to the laboratory where my experiment awaits... In the night... In the dark

   Ray Cuellar

Ray Cuellar, is the newest member to joint the current Shrunken Heads lineup. A self taught Bassist / Synthesist, Ray has been heavily influenced and inspired by the likes of:

Matt Malley (Back in the Mr. Dog Days – Before his stint with Counting Crows)
Charles Meeks (Chuck Mangione - Live at the Hollywood Bowl specifically)
Geddy Lee http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geddy_Lee
Pino Palladino http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pino_Palladino
Patrick O’Hearn http://www.patrickohearn.com/
And of course…
Rupert Greenall (PPG Synth master of “The Fixx”)

Over many years, Ray has performed in quite a few local Bay Area bands. He’s probably best known as “the guy with the big hair” in the 80’s alternative rock band “Mystery Farmer”.

big hair ray It was during this period that Ray began pursuing a growing interest in Synthesizers. His current collection contains some of the most sought after “rarest of the rare” vintage synthesizers. He’s traveled to the U.K on more than one occasion (first as an attendee then as a guest speaker) specifically to meet with an elite group of Synthesizer designers, programmers and users.

In time it will be interesting to see which of these old beasts start making appearances at The Shrunken Heads shows. We’ll soon see if he still has the ability to juggle playing his Bass Guitar and Synthesizers with his feet at the same time!

Ray would like everyone to know just how excited he is about his new role in The Shrunken Heads. He best sums it up by saying, “From what I’ve experienced in my short time with the band, it’s quite obvious there’s going to be a lot of good original music to come”.
